Immigrant Workers Centre v. Newrest Holding S.A. et al.

On May 9, 2025, the Superior Court of Québec authorized the class action brought by the Immigrant Workers Centre (“IWC”) against Newrest Holding S.A. et al. for settlement purposes only. The IWC and the Defendants reached a settlement of $2,300,000, which will be presented to the Court on August 26, 2025. As part of this class action, the IWC alleges, among other things, that hundreds of migrant workers were victims of an unlawful system set up and operated by the Defendants, who induced them to work under the false promise of obtaining a valid work permit in Canada.

Criteria to respect

  • You worked without a valid Canadian work permit, specifically in Newrest’s production units in Montreal OR you are the heir of someone who meets this criterion;
  • Between October 3, 2020, and May 7, 2025.

AND

  • You were placed or paid by one of the agencies or individuals mentioned in the notice (Gestion Trésor Inc., l’Agence de Placement Trésor Inc., Emploi Trésor International Inc., Trésor (9475-0635 Québec Inc.), 9441-1550 Québec Inc., 9278-9627 Québec inc., 9371-8914 Québec inc., 9380-8178 Québec inc., Succès Canada Immigration inc. or Mr. Guillermo Montiel Villalvazo).

The deadline for opting out is August 21, 2025.
